Every adoption is a victory—another life saved from euthanasia and given the chance to thrive. But some adoptions feel especially meaningful.
The longer a cat stays with us, the deeper we bond with them. The harder their journey has been, the more incredible it is to see them finally go home.
For months, two amazing cats, Pizza and Razzmatazz, captured the hearts of everyone at Paws and Claws. Their journey wasn’t linear, and the wait was long, but it proved to be well worth it.

Back in September, one of our volunteers spotted Pizza wandering the streets of Chicago, nibbling on a soggy slice of... you guessed it, pizza. Noticing his gentle nature and interest in her, she reached out to Paws and Claws to get him the care he needed.
Razzmatazz was waiting at one of our partner shelters last November. As a timid cat who needed extra time to adjust before being ready for adoption, he was at risk of euthanasia.
Shortly after taking them in, we found out both Pizza and Razz are FeLV+, which made their search for a forever home a bit more complicated. As immunocompromised cats, they couldn’t be placed in homes with non-FeLV cats. They spent their time in separate foster homes, each patiently waiting for their opportunity to find a family of their own.
Then, an adopter learned about their stories and immediately knew they were meant to be together. Pizza and Razzmatazz were adopted as a pair, beginning a new chapter in their lives, side by side.
Razz is recovering from some skin sensitivity and his cone is helping him heal!
