THE PROCESS
Submit Application
To begin the adoption process please fill out an application. We'll respond in 2-4 days if you are ready to adopt within a week. If not, we will be in touch closer to the date that you have listed on your application as the date you are able to bring a new pet home. We receive many applications so please be patient.
2
Conversation
After reviewing your application, we'll reach out via phone call to get to know you, review your application in-depth and talk about felines who may be a good match. Please frequently check your email and voicemail inbox after submitting an application.
3
Make An Appointment
Set up an appointment to come to our adoption center and meet our adoptable cats or move forward with a trial adoption (two week trial period post adoption to make sure it is a good fit) with one of the cats in our foster homes.

Please keep in mind:

-
Kittens do best when they have a friend. Paws and Claws adopts out kittens in pairs and solo kittens ONLY to homes with another cat/kitten.
-
We are not able to hold animals for an extended period of time. Please don't apply until you are ready or close to prepared to bring your new addition home (within a week of the application being submitted).
-
We prioritize adopters in Illinois, but may accept applicants who are just over the boarder in the following states, WI and IN.
-
Both references must NOT be related to you.
-
You MUST put down your current or past veterinarian if you have/had pets.
-
Be open-minded! We ask that you do not choose cats you are interested in based on looks. Please remember that you will be adopting them because you feel that their personality fits with your home environment. We will not review applications where adopters are applying for an animal because they like their color etc.
-
One of the things that is very important to us is keeping in touch with our adopters. We want to see photos, hear stories and maybe even receive a holiday card?! Once a P&C animal always a P&C animal. Please keep in touch. We will email/call to check-in periodically the first few months post-adoption. Our fosters love receiving adoption updates and photos and we love hearing from you. It may not be every organization's requirement but it is one of ours.

What will set your application apart…

-
When filling out our application please be as detailed as possible and answer the question being asked. We receive many applications with missing info (unit number, zip code etc.) and even more that have very short answers.

-
And last, but not least have you followed the information stated above? We try to be as clear as possible to avoid confusion and be upfront about what we look for on an application.
